Just a heads up, we recorded this episode featuring guest co-host

Adam Ganser way back in August of 2018. It was a subscriber-only episode, though, so it's been

locked behind that sweet, sweet Patreon paywall ever since. But we're re-releasing it this week because

now, almost two years later,

it has become horrifyingly relevant to what's happening in the world right now. And by that,

of course, I mean COVID-19. The episode is about an anti-malaria drug that, as it turns out,

can cause serious and scary mental health side effects

when taken improperly. So much so that it seems pretty clear that at one point, the United States

may be used it as a means of torturing and interrogating detainees at Guantanamo Bay. The name of that drug, mephloquin.

If that sounds vaguely familiar, it's probably because Trump has been pretty aggressive

in suggesting that two similar drugs, chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, might be useful

in treating the symptoms of coronavirus.

And you know what?

That might be true, but that absolutely does not mean you should hit your nearest online pharmacy

and start pounding chloroquine pills the second you get the sniffles.
