Not far from where you live sits a small village. It's a pretty place with pretty cottages,

with pretty gardens. Well, all apart from one of them. This is where the grumps live.

There was Granny Grump, who was very, very lazy. In the summer she would sit on her porch

and stare grumpily at everybody that walked by. In the winter she would sit inside by the

dirty window and do much the same. Then there was Grandpa Grump. He was always very busy.

But what he was busy doing was absolutely nothing at all. If something needed mending

or cleaning or moving or scrubbing or painting, he would always find something else to distract

him. Consequently, he never did anything. Their cottage was run down, with tiles missing

from the roof, paint peeling from woodwork, and even holes in the walls. The garden was

a mess of broken things, like refrigerators and cars, all amongst tall tangles of weeds.

Worst of all, the grumps were rude. They didn't like their neighbors, and they didn't like

the village. They didn't like children, and they didn't like wildlife. They didn't
