Hello everyone this is J. V. L. here with my best friends Sarah Longwell and Tim

Miller of the Bulwark. Guys it is Wednesday, May 29th. The closing arguments are over the jury is

deliberating and I want to posit to you that this is what victory looks like. Victory is not an outcome when it comes to

the legal process and the justice system. victory is that the process functioned.

And all the things that people were worried about in the days leading up to the

releasing of the Alvin Bragg indictment and then after the charging documents were released about whether or not he was

overreaching or the theory of the case was the theory of the law was too novel and

wouldn't be able to make it to trial or the Trump would turn it into a circus.

All of those things turned out not to be true and what we got is a fully functioning criminal

court, a prosecution that made a very strong case, a reading of the law which survived

all the pretrial motions, and a defendant who had amounted a vigorous defense. This is what it looks like and we can't be in this for a specific outcome.

When you're in for the rule of law, you're not there for outcomes. You're in for the functioning of the system.

Oh my God.

I didn't have time to read the show map this morning unfortunately so I don't know if this was

if we knew if I knew this was coming but that was fucking horrible no victory is an orange
