Mrs. P looks into the exploitative practices of P. T. Barnum from slavery to animal cruelty, fraud and extreme greed. P. T. Barnum was a man not afraid to lie. This image contrasts incredibly to Hugh Jackman's portrayal in the movie "The Greatest Showman" which completely white washes his image and calls into question Hugh's relationship with Rupert Murdoch.

| 0:00.0 | For the second time in Too Many Tabs history, we're putting a content warning at the beginning of this episode. Mrs. Pearl Mania and I are well aware that many, many, many of our listeners listen or watch this show with children present. And that's fine. That's good, usually. But on this episode, we're talking about P.T. Barnum. Many people think of him as the circus man or the character that Hugh Jackman played in a |

| 0:25.9 | War in America. And what people found entertaining before the Civil War in America are now |
| 0:32.9 | considered crimes, horrific crimes, some that may induce nightmares to younger children. |
| 0:39.6 | We highly recommend that you put headphones on or watch it privately before a kid hears or |
| 0:47.1 | sees this just because of the graphic nature of some of the content that we cover |
| 0:52.1 | at the very end of this episode. Thank you. And now, let's cut back to me an hour and 45 minutes ago before he learned way too much. Today's episode is about circuses. The history of the circuses, right, Mrs. P.? Sort of. What is it really about then? P.T. Barnum. Oh, that's why we had to watch that movie? Yeah. So we went to watch that Hugh Jackman musical? Yeah. That's why I had to get jacked by Hugh? Too Many Taves. Remember to Smile. Welcome to Too Many Tabs, a podcast where a husband and wife duo sit next to each other in front of crumbling wallpaper. And today, sitting next to each other and what's feeling like, I'm going to just throw it out there. Crumbling Marriage. What? You made me watch a Hugh Jackman musical. Yeah, I made you watch the greatest showman. Yeah, and it was the greatest show pile of shit. Yeah, it was not good. I can't even tell you it was good. I can't even lie. No, nine songs, all of which were millennial stomp-wook, musical, suspender slapping. Yeah. Boot-tapping. Yeah, a lot of that. All of that. A little bit of that. A little bit of that. Hugh Jackman with a weird filter at one point on his face because they were trying to make Hugh Jackman look 20. He wasn't young. He was old then. He doesn't even have Wolverine powers. He's still old now. He's old now. Older than ever., and Zach Efron showing up. Yep. |
| 2:18.0 | That wasn't great. |
| 2:19.3 | What do you mean? |
| 2:20.4 | The only good part was the bartender. |
| 2:22.1 | Anyway, why did I have to watch the great, an hour and 45 minute musical with only nine songs? |
| 2:30.6 | Oh, oh, because I wanted to do an episode on P.T. Barnum, and I wanted you to be prepared. I wanted you to understand the lore. |
| 2:38.2 | There was no prepared. I could feel the whole time I was watching that, I was like, I don't think that's right. I don't know when this is even supposed to be set. |
| 2:45.7 | They were just like, it's the 1800s in New York. And I'm like, but when in the 1800s? |
| 2:51.1 | The 1800s is a very vibrant and violent time. |
| 2:55.6 | Yeah, we've covered it before. |
| 2:56.6 | I'm pretty sure this movie took place during gangs of New York times. |
| 3:01.6 | Martin Scorsese's gangs of New York. |
| 3:03.5 | But instead, it felt very much like I was at a millennial burger joint watching people go, |
| 3:10.2 | oh, but this lady has a beard. |
| 3:12.3 | Oh, but we have two-string French fries out of a metal cup. |
| 3:16.4 | We do things differently here at this museum. |
