This day, December 10th, 1836, the final days of the Great Toledo War.

The Toledo War was a dispute between Ohio and Michigan over a strip of territory that jutted west from the city of Toledo, which is on the banks of Lake Erie.

This conflict flared up in the spring of 1835 and was finally resolved in December 1836 at what is known as the frostbitten

convention I suppose it was cold in Ohio and Michigan in the winter of 1836 so the

great Toledo War one question, was it a war?

It was certainly a dispute.

There were some troops, but only a handful.

There were some shots fired, but those were all into the air.

There was some bloodshed, but that was one person stabbed with a penknife during a scuffle.

So we can debate whether this counts as a war and much less a great war, but either way, it is a very interesting

story.

This might be the most requested thing

that we've gotten to do on this show.

And as you'll see, as I think you'll see,

it is about lots more than just 468 square miles of frostbitten territory.
