Erling Holland has shattered scoring records this season for Manchester City. And is now lead man city to the final of the competition. He says he was brought here to win.

They won the Premier League four times out of the last five years, so they didn't bring me to win the Premier League. They know how to win the Premier League. So you can read it between the lines.

And yet, despite his record-setting goals, there are those who say that this team isn't actually any better with him in the lineup.

There are different teams, and unless a team with Alan Holland and the team, we're not seeing the full package of what this player can do because of the team that he's actually gone to.

Today, the Athletic Sam Lee breaks down the great Erling Holland's debate and explains the keys to this weekend's Champions League final.

Ah, thanks very much. I'm pretty sure the last time was the last Champions League final, so you were in? Is that right?

This is part of my tradition now. It must be a massive game for Manchester City if I'm doing the lead. So, yes, always nice to be part of.

All right. Sam, well, we're going to focus our conversation today on the guy soccer fans have been focusing on all season, the guy who was far away Manchester City's leading goal scorer this year and who broke the Premier League's single season goal scoring record with 36, Erling Holland.

Sam Lee recently set out to learn a bit more about what Erling Holland is like off the field. So, you know, before we get too far down this whole soccer debate road, tell us what you knew about Holland's personality before you wrote this piece about him.

And then what you discovered in your reporting?

Yeah, well, last year while he was kind of decided whether to come to City or where I'm a dread, I went to Brena, his hometown in Norway and spoke to people there.

And obviously that was with the idea of finding out what he was like growing up and what stage he took on certain behaviors in terms of professionalism.

And he was explaining to me that it was introduced to him about sleep quality and not using devices within an hour of going to bed to improve sleep quality and nutrition and all this kind of stuff. And he took that on at a very early age, like 14, 15.
