If you were here last week, we jumped into talking about the book of

Ephesians really primarily Ephesians chapter four in chapter five and we were

talking about a little bit of the context that the book of Ephesians was written in just some context

for the church at Ephesus to which Paul writes this letter and we talked about the history

there of it the church starting in acts 18 in acts chapter 19 and how the gospel was really

just exploding in this capital city of Ephesus in a really profound way that was stunning to me even as I was kind of doing

my research in prep for these weeks, so much so that we talked about this guy Demetrius last week

who's in Acts Chapter 19, whose job it was

to make idols, to carve out idols.

And the gospel is exploding in such a contagious way in Ephesus that the idle workers are going out of business

because nobody wants to buy the idols anymore because the gospel is taking such significant ground.

And yet, about 8 to 10 years later,

the Apostle Paul is writing to that same church

that started so strong, and he's going,

wake up, guys, wake up. And he's going wake up guys wake up and it's kind of crazy when you think

about that church like how could how could you start so strong and just in a

number of years need a wake-up call already but for all of us I think it's easy to say how can that happen to them

but even in our own lives for us today it is so easy for us to drift because we're living in a broken world in the gravitational

pool in this broken world does not promote godliness it promotes selfishness and so we really are coming under this call this loving call from
