to hear how and when lockdown will be lifted. I'm Heather Stewart political editor of The Guardian

and this is politics weekly. Scientists have discovered a new variant in the UK,

another thing to add to minister's concerns as they decide what next steps England should take

towards normal life. Unlike in earlier phases of the pandemic, Boris Johnson has steer clear

of optimistic promises and repeatedly urged caution, but that has only increased the tension with

his own MPs who believe that once more vaccinations have taken place, restrictions should disappear.

So what factors are likely to influence the Prime Minister's speech on the 22nd of February?

Will he have learned lockdown lifting lessons from the past?

And was Scotland's first Minister Nicholas Sturgeon showing the way when she announced her plans

this week? Meanwhile, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has somehow found time to push new

legislation to protect free speech in universities in England. What will that mean? And why choose now

to raise the issue of no platforming? And should the Conservative Party also be focusing on a

potential problem with race? That's a question that Wilfred Immanuel Jones, who ran as a Tory candidate
