I'm Kenya Evelyn stepping in for Jonathan Friedland.

In his first trip outside of Washington DC and his home state of Delaware, this week President

Joe Biden chose to head to none other than my hometown, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Iowa suggests the city is just one the new Democratic president must visit and engaging

the millions of black voters whose record turnout in the 2020 general election was key

to winning Biden the White House and US Senate.

For some, this week's televised town hall in Milwaukee was a needed first step to combat

racial inequities in the economy and health care, made worse by the coronavirus, given

the disproportionate death toll in black communities and disparate economic fallout.

Many are looking to the Biden administration to set an early tone in dismantling institutional

racism and confronting white supremacy, which folks all over the world witness culminate

with former President Donald Trump acquitted in the Senate after being impeached in the

House of Representatives for his role in the January 6th Interaction.

With the trial now in his rear view, America continues its journey on the long road toward

racial reckoning, now under a President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Can unifying the country ever truly be done without combating white nationalism once

and for all?

Lots to talk about and there's no one better to discuss the new administration's obligation

to black voters than a state lawmaker representing a community essential to its win.
