0:00.0	Hello everybody and welcome to this week's edition of the late sub. I am your host, Claire Watkins.
0:11.8	It is the week of Wednesday, April 30th. And this week, we are going to talk about the death of the
0:19.2	super team. We're going to talk about Gotham FC, who don't look bad this year
0:23.3	at all. In many ways, they look better. But I want to talk about their success in 2025 through the
0:29.6	context of 2024, where they came from, where they're going, and why I think that it's a good
0:35.9	example of why super teams do not work in the context
0:39.3	of the end of USL. Let's dig in. So a wacky weekend of games in the end of USL this week,
0:46.6	but the main storyline that stuck out to me was Gotham. We got an additional game from them because of their Champions Cup commitments.
0:55.5	They played three games this week as opposed to two, some big wins, one big loss.
1:00.3	They beat Angel City four to one, huge result. They lose to Portland four to one that Tuesday.
1:05.8	And then they go on to travel to Washington to beat the spirit, three to nothing, huge, like, flag in the ground
1:12.1	type win against the spirit. That's a top four team. They're going to probably see them many
1:16.2	times this season, possibly in the postseason. And this has me thinking about Gotham, because
1:22.8	they were a team that was a real lightning rod for news, both last year and this year, really
1:29.6	active off seasons, maybe in two different directions before the 2024 season, now before the
1:35.3	2025 season. And I think this is a good moment with Gotham now with the exact same record over
1:41.9	seven games in 2025 than they did in 2024.
1:45.6	To talk about the lens in which we are experiencing Gotham season this year,
1:51.5	good time to take a beat, take a moment.
