I was speaking at a university in the state of Minnesota, and I'll never forget what one of the VPs said to me,

this is almost 25 years ago. As we sat over lunch, I couldn't even tell you why he spoke it to me as we were speaking there together over lunch.

And he gave me this piece of Greek prose that I remembered to this day.

I can't remember the context. I can't remember anything about the conversation or even my trip there.

I know simply that this piece that he gave to me, I remember it to this day. Just listen to it for a moment.

It was called Come to the Edge. And we sat there over lunch at the faculty table and he said these words.

He says, Tim, just listen to this. And he said, come to the edge and they said we can't.

And he said, come to the edge and they said, we're afraid. he said, come to the edge, and they said, we're afraid.

He said, come to the edge, they came, he pushed them, and they flew.

And I'll never forget that to this day.

Jesus could always get a crowd to listen to him.

The problem is when he called people to the edge.

That was always the problem.

People came to the Jesus meetings, but not many went to the edge so they can be what God has called them to be.

And I believe that what we're about to see here in Matthew chapter 8,

Jesus is going to break up the crowd and give them there, come to the edge speech.

He's going to take them from listening to miracles. He's going to

move them from sermon to taking flight. Listen to how Jesus breaks it up. His come to the edge moment.

This is what it says. Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, all of us would want to preach. Let's put this online.

Let's do a podcast. He says, let's give orders to depart to the other side of the sea.

He says, let's break up the crowd. This was his call to the edge. He was calling them there.

And everyone is fine with Jesus until he starts giving orders and wanting to push them into places they don't want to go.
