Once upon a time, there lived a princess called Esther. She was kind and good and quite adventurous.

In fact, her father made sure she was taught well in all things, but mostly swordsmanship.

Esther was no ordinary princess, you see. She had been born with golden hair.

Each strand was made of the finest gold. It was soft, but always cool to the touch. And when any strand fell from her head, it turned to

dust. Years before she was born, a spell was cast upon Esther's mother. A jealous sorceress

who wanted nothing but to be queen, placed a spell on her after the king and

queen were wed. The spell turned the queen to solid gold. The king did everything he could to break

the spell. And finally he did. The queen was restored and the kingdom rejoiced.

The sorceress was banished, and life went on.

But when Princess Esther was born, the king and queen were shocked to find her golden hair. Perhaps only a part of the spell was broken, they thought.

And they were right.

A spell, hidden within a spell.

When Esther was but two days old,

an eagle carrying a scroll, arrived at the palace. It was from the sorceress.
