I watched too much television last night.

First I watched the president's speech,

then I watched the Golden Globes.

I was hoping that both would help unite the country.

Mm-hmm.

They both divided the country even further.

Yesterday I watched a lot more television than I usually do.

It started late afternoon watching President Trump's first speech

since he left the presidency.

And then in the evening with my family,

I sat around and I watched the Golden Globes.

I have to admit I did not watch the Trump speech

with my family because nobody in my family wanted to watch it.

But I did watch it.

And what the two events together persuaded me

that we live in two separate countries.

President Trump talked about the wall between the United States

and Mexico.

What I saw yesterday was a wall separating almost half

of our country from the other half of the country.

It was as if the speech and then the Golden Globes
