and England's late Victorian and Edwardian heirs.

Of all the Christmas and holiday traditions that I most love, well, for me, it always comes back to the food.

Just the way a taste of savory turkey with biting yet sweet cranberry sauce with mashed potatoes and gravy

will always evoke Thanksgiving for me, they're a taste of the Christmas season that just

bring me back to my past, and likely most of us, too.

Thoughts and tastes of the holidays can really bring us back into a historical past as well,

and I could not be more excited to be offering a true taste treat today for the Gilded Gentlemen's 2025 holiday show.

I am joined by returning guest Becky Liberall Diamond, who joined me previously for a talk

about her book, The Gilded Age Cookbook, back in 2023. But now Becky has just published a wonderful new book, The Gilded Age Christmas

Cookbook. And Becky joins me here at the table today for a look at just how Christmas in

the Gilded Age looked and tasted. There were some things that we wouldn't recognize today on those

gilded tables, but there were also some of our most treasured holiday traditions, food, and

otherwise that appeared in the Gilded Age that help us celebrate this favorite time of year today.

Becky Liberald Diamond is a food writer, librarian, and research historian.

Her most recent book, The Gilded Age Christmas Cookbook, blends Gilded Age details and

celebrity stories with historic holiday menus and recipes updated for

modern kitchens, and it's the basis of our talk today.
