Summary

Sometimes the other side listens. In our lead story, a listener dares to speak directly to the spirit of a departed loved one, and what follows will leave you wondering what truly lingers behind closed doors. From there, we travel deep into the Ohio woods where a group of kids discovers something they were never meant to find. Then, a family heirloom meant for play becomes something far darker in a tale that will make you think twice about keeping old toys in the house. Later, a couple’s weekend getaway at a picturesque castle resort turns into a night of unexplainable noises and ghostly company. These are the stories that remind us that sometimes the veil between worlds doesn’t just whisper. It answers back. Listen, if you dare, to true stories from real people on Jim Harold’s Campfire. Oh, we have a return caller. I love when we get return callers. That means I'm not so horrible after all. And Spencer is a great storyteller, and he has another story for us this time about a member of his family and some strangers that ensued.

1:01.7

Spencer, welcome back to the show.

1:03.7

Thank you for joining us, and we love that story that you had before about that presence and that home.

And I can't wait to hear this one as well. Tell us what

happened. Thank you for having me, Jim. It's wonderful to be back. So this story is probably my most

1:20.2

recent story. I grew up in Northeast Texas, which I had pointed out last time, and that's where my mom and

1:28.3

most of my family still live. The house my mom grew up in. It was built, I think, in the

1:35.0

1940s, so not too old, but it's a really cool house. It has like all of this really cool

1:40.6

wood paneling inside. In Northeast Texas, there's tons of like piney woods, and it's all made of this like really

1:46.8

dark pine wood inside.

1:48.2

So the house is kind of dark, but it was never scary growing up.

1:51.7

It was always really warm and comforting and when my grandparents were living there.

1:57.4

Well, my brother and I, just to give you a little backstory, my brother and I are the only grandkids on that side of the family. So there were my grandparents, my mom, my uncle, and my brother and I. That was it. Cousins, we really didn't know that kind of thing or they lived far away. So when my grandparents passed away and my uncle passed away, my mom inherited the house and all the stuff that came with it.

2:21.2

So her his stuff, her parents stuff, her great grandparents stuff, all this stuff.

2:26.0

Wow.

2:27.3

Which is really cool for me because I can just be digging one day and I find this old pocket watch.
