Summary

Can beauty save the world? In this conclusion to ‘The Genius of Jesus’ series, Mosaic Lead Pastor Erwin McManus leads us to discover how the beauty of God is reflected in everything he creates.

From the beauty of nature to the intricate textures of different foods, we see that God did not create with a singularly utilitarian perspective. God wove beauty in as an essential part of creation. Though some may struggle with the thought that a good God exists in a world full of tragedy, we see in Ecclesiastes 3 that God makes everything beautiful in its time.

The human story is this: God was the author of beauty, and we introduced tragedy into the human story. When we give God permission to enter into our story, we give him the ability to create something beautiful out of our lives - even our most broken pieces. God wants to give us a taste for what is truly beautiful. And this is a life that is fully surrendered to the genius of God’s beauty.

At the intersection of humanity’s greatest tragedy and God’s undeniable beauty, the cross became the ultimate expression of the genius of Jesus. Don’t miss this impactful and resonant message that will lead you into the genius that only Jesus can offer – the genius of being fully human again.

Well, on this particular event, Roberta asked the question, she was quoting Dastoevsky's book,

1:04.0

The Idiot, asking the question, can beauty save the world? And Dastoevsky used the character of

1:13.0

The Idiot as a macy and a Christlike figure, really asking the question, can something that

1:20.1

seems, at times, almost superficial or secondary or non-essential as beauty be the very power

and force for good that we're all searching for? And it was just an incredible time interacting

and thinking about the power of beauty. And it caused me to begin to think about what the

relationship of not simply God as the creator of the universe has to beauty, because for me,

1:45.4

that question is easier to answer, but what is the relationship of Jesus to beauty?

1:51.0

I mean, when God, to me, it's simple. In fact, it's odd to me that there are times where it seems

1:57.0

that Christianity has almost been in conflict with creativity and treating beauty as if it's

supplemental and not essential. How in the world could a person believe in the God who's the

creator of all things and not believe in the essential nature of beauty? Everything God creates
