If you're a parent, you've heard that line.

You've heard it from your kids, and in fact, your parents probably heard it from you.

I can do it myself.

There's something interesting about us as human beings, that as we grow and develop, we

feel this desperate need to prove that we can do it ourselves, that we are capable of

doing whatever we want to do without anyone else's help.

In a very unique way, this is a part of the developmental process of figuring out how

to relate to power.

Every one of us, so that we realize it or not, struggle with the reality of parallelism.

When we're little, we want to do things that bigger kids do.

We want to do things that someone who's stronger, someone who's smarter, someone who's more

developed can do.

There seems to be almost like the psychological tension with us that we're never satisfied

with what we can do.

We always want to do that little bit more.

So eventually, those parents that were helping us when we were little now, they're holding

us back.
