It's a rather cold and bleak morning out there, so if you need to turn up the heating, you may have my sympathies.

And the news today, really, is of a bit of a similar hue.

First up, there's a report out on the maternity scandal at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, where hundreds of babies died or were left brain damage, and in this week where we've been uncovering terribly cruel practices in hospitals up and down the country, this can only pile further pressure on Sajid Jabid because he needs to fix the National Health Service. It is entirely broken.

As if that's not bad enough, research published by the King's Trust today

suggests that satisfaction with the NHS is at its lowest level for 25 years.

Can anybody actually sort this mess out?
