So for the first half of my life, I was often introduced as, this is Dr. Charles Stanley's son.

And honestly, that never bothered me. There were a lot of perks to being his son. And for those of

you who don't know, my dad was a famous pastor on television, on radio for many, many, many years.

So of course, there were a lot of perks. And there were some awkward moments that the biggest perk was

this. I found out later, Sandra told me that one of the reasons she went out with me for the first

time was if it didn't work out, it didn't matter because she'd be able to tell her grandmother

that she went out with Dr. Charles Stanley's son. So there was that. So thank you, dad. Okay, so that

was 30-something years ago. In terms of awkward moments, the consistent awkward moment was what I

call the double handshake. And it wasn't like a double handshake like this. It went more like this.

I'd be with a friend. They introduced me to one of their friends. Hey, this is my friend Andy's

Andy Stanley. And they'd be like, oh, it's nice to meet you in shake hands because that's what you do.

And then they would say, he's Dr. Charles Stanley's son. And before they could catch

himself, here came the second handshake like, oh, like it was kind of nice to meet you. Now,

it's like really nice to meet you. That first handshake was for politeness, but the second handshake

was for association, right? Because of a shared name. And that shared name and that association
