to it. Joseph and Samantha. They were, by all appearances, an ordinary couple who kept mostly to

themselves. They lived a simple, quiet life, and no one who knew them, not their

neighbors, their family members, or even their own daughter, could have foretold the

tragedies that would end their lives.

This is the story of the murder-suicide of Joseph and Samantha Parker.

Joseph Parker and his wife Samantha lived on Clydesdale Lane in Springfield, Tennessee.

By the time they reached their mid-40s, the couple had been married for 12 years,

and McKenzie, their only child, was grown up with her family of her own.

Joseph's neighbors described him as a stern man.

He was six feet tall, 215 pounds.

He had cool blue eyes and a friendly smile.

He and his wife, though, were very private people.

They didn't go out much, and neighbors rarely saw Samantha leave the house alone.

Joseph and Samantha kept their home exceptionally clean, as if an open house were to be starting any minute.

Later, authorities would describe it as immaculate,

not a speck of dust, spotless. The couple preferred to keep the blinds closed and their neighbors

at arm's length. When Joseph was working outside in the yard on his car, he might nod or wave

to someone passing by, but he never motioned for them to come over to stop by and chat.
