So last episode, we talked about this concept of the friend-in-me distinction, which comes from a book

0:07.2

called the concept of the political, which is written by something of a controversial figure,

0:12.0

but has actually gained in prominence as of late. In fact, even though this person is considered

0:16.8

to be on the extreme right, he was actually kind of revived by a lot of leftist thinkers,

0:21.2

especially within Red China. But we're also starting to see him mention more on the right as well.

0:26.5

And the whole idea of the friend-inemey distinction is kind of what we see playing out within

0:32.4

U.S. politics today. And that's why it's so important to actually understand what he was

0:37.4

talking about, why it's important. And last episode was all's so important to actually understand what he was talking about,

0:38.2

why it's important. And last episode was all about doing that. It was all about going through

0:42.3

kind of an internal analysis and critique of that theory. Where did we agree with it?

0:45.7

Where did we disagree with it? But we kind of left on that cliffhanger of, so what do we do about

0:50.4

it? Now that we've got a better idea of what's going on, what do we do about it. So what we're going to do today is we're going to do a quick, very quick recap,

0:57.5

although we would encourage you to go back and watch that full hour and a half long episode.

1:00.7

But we're going to a quick recap of it. And then today we're going to get into what do we do

1:04.2

about it. And we don't just mean the collective, like what do we as a people do about it? Because quite frankly, that's frustrating. It is really frustrating

1:10.9

when we're constantly told what you need to do is vote harder and love the Constitution more.

1:15.0

No, no, no. What are practical things that we can do about it? Not just as members of a country,

1:19.7

a community, but members of a family, as individuals. What are practical ways that we can go about

1:24.3

addressing some of the concerns that were brought up in the previous episode in order to affect the sort of positive changes we want. Plus, if you stick around to the

1:31.5

end, I promise you it's going to get a little spicy because one of the homework assignments for each

1:37.5

one at the table today was we had to come up with, okay, if we had to rebuild, if the fight

1:43.4

gets so bad that we had to rebuild and we had to come up with some changes to the system as it currently exists in order to prevent the bad things from happening, what would that look like?
