Summary

The Freedom Your Soul Is Looking For: John 8:31-59: Daily Devotional, Daily Bible Study In this episode, Rachael Groll digs into what Jesus meant when He talked about true freedom in John chapter eight. She explains that real freedom isn’t something we earn, inherit, or pretend our way into. It comes from knowing Jesus personally and letting His truth shape the way we think, live, and respond to the world around us. Rachael unpacks the difference between believing in freedom and actually living free, and she gets honest about how pride and spiritual blindness can keep us stuck. This conversation invites listeners to move beyond head knowledge and step into the kind of freedom that only comes from abiding in Jesus. ☆Go Deeper and Learn to Hear God’s Voice: Knowing Jesus Course ☆Get Ad-Free Episodes, Bonus Content, and more here:  patreon.com/HearingJesus ☆To Learn More About Sponsoring a Child, check out Compassion International here:  ➤  Sponsor a Child ☆Go on a trip with Rachael: Bible Study Live ☆Have a question for Rachael? True freedom comes from abiding in the word of God. Freedom is not about obeying the law or human effort. Knowing Jesus transforms our lives and brings lasting change. Spiritual blindness can prevent us from experiencing true freedom. Freedom in Christ is both personal and relational. Our heritage does not guarantee our freedom in Christ. Sin can control our lives, but Jesus breaks that chain. Freedom is an ongoing journey, not a one-time event. We must value God's voice over all others. Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

0:11.8

You know, as someone who's spent a lot of time in a lot of other countries, I can recognize from an American perspective that we are free as Americans.

0:24.2

Like we have a lot more freedoms than most people do in other areas of the world.

0:28.1

But one area that I think a lot of us still struggle in is understanding really what spiritual freedom means.

0:36.0

And I think we might on the surface think, yeah, we have

0:39.6

freedom in Christ and we would on the surface agree with that. But I think when it comes to the way

0:47.9

that we actually live our lives, sometimes we have a hard time actually believing and living

0:53.2

like we are free.

0:55.2

And, you know, we might intellectually know we're forgiven, but we don't necessarily live like we're free from the burden of whatever it is that we needed to be forgiven for.

1:08.4

So maybe that is some of the choices of your past or fear or

1:12.8

even things that happened to you in the past. We often can carry those things. And because we don't

1:19.3

want to admit that intellectually we believe that we are forgiven and we're free, but we're not living

1:24.3

like we're free. There's a disconnect there and it can really burden our heart. Well, today in John 8, we're not living like we're free. There's a disconnect there, and it can really burden our

1:28.2

heart. Well, today in John chapter 8, we're going to finish out John chapter 8 today. There's this

1:33.8

dialogue between Jesus that he's continuing with the Jewish leaders. And this time, what he's doing

1:40.7

is he's revealing this connection between truth and freedom and really knowing who Jesus is. And so what he's doing is he's revealing this connection between truth and freedom and really knowing who Jesus is.

1:47.1

And so what he's doing is he shows us that freedom doesn't come necessarily from obeying the law.

1:52.9

It also doesn't come from things like human effort, which is what I think a lot of us get trapped into acting like.

2:00.2

Even if we don't believe it,

2:01.7

necessarily we act like it. Freedom actually comes from abiding in the Word of God and understanding

2:09.5

the truth of God. And so we're going to read it today and then I'm going to unpack what it means.

2:13.9

So this is John chapter 8, verses 31 through 59. So Jesus was saying to those Jews who
