Summary

People overthink their businesses - who they hire, how they market and what they spend their money on.

If you're a start-up, I firmly believe you can make real noise with a small, scrappy team of three or four people. You just have to know what you need.

Regardless of your industry, documenting the journey is the best way to show potential customers who you are and what you do.

The following 8 minutes is a few different conversations with start-ups I'm working with. What was your biggest takeaway from this? Any feedback is helpful, tweet @GaryVee to let me know your thoughts.

1:10 - why I believe in three/four person teams

3:15 - how to market a law firm

6:10 - thoughts on LinkedIn

personal brand is because I genuinely believe it's reputation. And just kind of a thoughtful,

0:24.8

deeper morning. I always think you guys listen to this in the morning. Kind of a little

0:29.2

bit of a deeper, thoughtful episode of the GaryVee audio experience. And so whether you

do listen in the morning or at night before you get to sleep or somewhere in between

0:38.1

during the day, I have a funny feeling this will be one that you enjoy. Hit me up on

People have been asking me a lot about what's going on with me, like why it's working so

0:50.6

0:55.6

be the conversation because this LinkedIn thing matters right now.

0:59.2

That's a perfect transition to my question, which was your thoughts on the team structure,

1:04.4

like who we need to have in place. So right now they have three people marketing.

1:07.9

Good. All of them like three months, six months, and the other person hasn't even started.

1:11.8

Great. The reality is I believe in three person teams ironically. Now you might have not

1:15.2

hired this way. I want a math person. I want art person, and I want a video person.

1:21.3

I want a written person. Video and art, different skills, like dust can do in both some of my

1:27.5

video people can't, some of my art people can't. I need somebody who can both film and

1:31.8

post produce and make image pieces like you see when I do a quote or thing of that nature.

1:37.6

So that could be two people or one person, right? I don't want to put you on the spot.

1:41.8

What you can't have is a film person who can't post produce. He's got to be able to film

1:45.2

and post produce. A lot of places have both. They have a film person. That's one thing.
