What is going on New York Rangers fans and welcome to episode six of the Flying V podcast.

I'm your host, Vincent Mercagliano, of the athletic.

And we've got, I don't know, kind of a tough in some ways,

but also a fun in some ways episode on tap for you guys today. Definitely going to be

a little bit different. We've got a very special guest coming up for you in our second segment,

connected recently with our old friend Sam Rosen, of course, the longtime voice of the New York Rangers who is now enjoying

retirement. We had kind of scheduled this a little while back for him to come on the show today

and just catch up, find out how retirement is going. And as you guys will hear, Sam is still

very much locked in on everything going on with the Rangers,

watches every minute of every game, even in retirement,

even as he's bouncing back and forth between New York and Florida,

and certainly has some opinions to share on the team,

but we'll also just find out generally how he's doing,

and it was really good to see him and catch up with him.

We stay in touch a decent amount, but this was the first time that we had kind of seen each other

because of the whole setting where we were recording and it was definitely good to catch up with

him. We ended up chatting for like almost a half hour before we even started recording.

So you guys will hear from Sam in just a little bit, but there really is no other way for me to

start this episode than by acknowledging what is a very sad day on this Thursday, November 13th, for the Rangers community, the New York

sports community, the NHL community, and especially for those of us on this Rangers beat.

There's only a handful of us who still cover the team on a day in and day

out basis, as many of you know. And we have lost one of our own. Larry Brooks has passed away
