This is hell private institutions of higher learning across the United States no longer serve the public

good.

Now that they have been captured by financialization, they have been taken over by private interests.

Those private interests would be those of the

enormously wealthy who if they have their way will be the only ones who can afford

to put their kids through college

costs.

after all, they made a lot of money,

driving up tuition, you know,

like the tuition you have to pay for your child's university experience.

Private schools with massive endowments, some close to a billion dollars, were cutting worker

wages if not letting go of faculty members and staff entirely during the

pandemic. Sure they could have covered those costs and kept those people on the

payroll but that's not how austerity which the now financialized private universities have embraced. That's not how austerity works. And it's not only austerity in cutting budgets that is an existential threat to higher education in the United States.
