Organization, are promising poorer and more vulnerable nation's debt relief in exchange for

opening their agricultural sectors to foreign markets and reorienting food

production towards exports instead of focusing on the domestic market and feeding its own people.

Of course when farms are prioritizing production for the globalized agriculture sector

that means locals become more dependent on imported food. The problem is during

times of crisis, you know, like a pandemic or climate change or both at the same time, those imports

can be disrupted at leaving the people

without farms producing the food they need to eat. All of those challenges

multiply when you are a small-scale farmer who does not depend on the more

formal market that is imposed by the World Bank IMF WTO as well as corporate

friendly local leadership and as small scale farming is dominated by women who still suffer from patriarchy, it is worst for vulnerable mothers and their children.

On top of all of that, the demands demands the global food market contributes mightily to

low wages, abuse, and unsafe work conditions conditions that have only

worsened under COVID-19.
