Basically, the point you got to is where the Senate leadership will send an email that's

called a hotline, and this is basically a canvas to say, does anybody plan to filibuster?

And the reason this was in the Senate leaders interest was that they would rather know ahead

of time if somebody was planning to filibuster a bill, then actually bring the bill up and

then have it run into a filibuster and then have it gum everything else up.

And if you have an objection to this bill, reply to this email and let us know.

And literally any staff member can reply to that email, can be a junior staff member,

you know, just say, my boss has an objection.

And it is that single email that today raises the threshold on whatever bill is at stake

from a simple majority to a super majority.

is, isn't it?

Strange, strange place with strange, every time I have to deal with the Senate, it's

like dealing with a set of like old religious texts that you don't, like you sort of know

in passing, but it's like, no, no, no, actually here in this portion of this text, it says

that you can't actually do this on any day, beginning with the letter F. And so therefore,

and it's just, it is so weird in its culture, folkways, bylaws, rules of procedure from

the outside.

And yet it's really important body.

It's a strange thing, the United States Senate, it's, you know, there are obviously

bicameral legislatures throughout the country and in state legislatures everywhere, but
