A daily look at the issues Americans care about most. The latest figure caught up in the Petraeus scandal is General John Allen,

current commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan. The Pentagon says he exchanged

tens of thousands of pages of email with one of the women caught up in the FBI's Petraeus investigation.

First, this news update. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says one of the women associated with former CIA director David Petraeus

exchanged tens of thousands of pages of emails with General John Allen, commander of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan.

He's nominated to be commander of NATO in Europe.

At the White House briefing today, Press Secretary Jay Carney said this.

I can tell you that the president thinks very highly of General Allen and his service to his country, as well as the job he has done in Afghanistan.
