It was September 11, 2001, the day that most people remember as being the day when hijacked

planes flew into the World Trade Center in New York City and into the Pentagon, and thousands

of people were killed in New York City and Washington, D.C. Everyone was watching the horror

that unfolded on their televisions.

But across the country on the West Coast, in room 916 of the Pacific Palm Hotel in the City of Industry, California, no one really noticed when a 52-year-old lawyer named Larry McNabney

who had been attending a horse show with his wife, Elisa, disappeared without a trace.

While everyone was glued to their TV screens, someone wheeled Larry out of the room in a wheelchair.

No one saw any trace of Larry until a few months later, when his skeleton was dug out of a vineyard.

He also had lived in Las Vegas and Sacramento.

Larry was a character and he was flashy.

He was one of those lawyers who dressed up for his ads.

One of his sticks was to dress up as the Marlborough Man.

And this worked for Larry.

He made a lot of money.

According to a book by Carlton Smith called Cold-blooded,

a true story of love, lies, greed, and murder.

Larry was handsome and charismatic in the life of the party, but like a lot of

people who are the life of the party, he battled some demons. Larry's love life was full of drama as

well, but he had calmed down in recent years. He was living with his fifth wife, Elisa, who was

20 years younger than Larry. Elisa was obsessed with showing horses, and so was Larry.
