We often hear stories of families who have each other's backs, even as they are accused of horrific crimes.

On May 29, 1987, a man was arrested and stood in the courtroom as his family pointed the finger

and called him a serial killer. So if you like your coffee hot but your bones chilled, sit back

and start your day with a morning cup of murder.

Lewis Crane, born January 6, 1957 in Los Angeles, California, was a third of what would be four

children born into their family. Early in his school years, Lewis showed signs of an intellectual

disability and eventually dropped out after

completing the fourth grade. Leaving home in the early 1970s, Lewis, unqualified due to his lack of

schooling, began living a transient lifestyle, taking up low-skilled labor jobs whenever he could find

them.

However, at the time of his arrest on May 29, 1987, he was considered unemployed.

Why exactly was he arrested?

Well, while tending to the crime scene involving the murder of a 29-year-old sex worker, Carolyn Barney, police noticed a man watching

every single move they made and behaving strangely for someone who was supposed to be just a bystander.

Later, finding out that the abandoned home Carolyn was left in, after being raped, sodomized,

and then strangled to death, was not far from where her parents lived,

and not far from where Lewis Crane's brother resided, the stranger at the scene was arrested

and subjected to hours of questioning. Eventually, he confessed to the murder of Carolyn Barney,
