In the summer of 1987, three children discovered that the line between childhood games and the paranormal can disappear in an instant. Out on their grandfather’s land near a rumored Native burial ground in rural Montana, the days smelled of cut hay and pine resin — but at dusk, the yard belonged to something else.

It began with a toy truck that hurled itself off a shelf, striking the wall with unnatural force. Soon came the faceless black boy crouched beneath the oak tree, holding their toy in silence before vanishing into thin air. 

But the strangest apparition arrived at midnight: a 17-year-old girl in a faded blue dress, hair in braids, umbrella and purse in hand, standing stiff in the upstairs hallway — staring past them as though trapped in another time. The house’s doorbell rang on its own, voices whispered in the backyard when no one was there, and a massive black hand once gripped the doorframe as if trying to pull itself inside.

This chilling true ghost story isn’t about creaky floors — it’s about the way childhood wonder collides with the unseen. Decades later, the memories still linger like a breath on the back of the neck… and the question remains: were these ghosts of the land, or something far older?
