On November 6, 1996, 23-year-old Sonny Hahn was hanging out at home with Helen Kim, one of her roommates.

They were at their condo in Irvine, California, in a complex called the San Marco apartment

homes. It was just after 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

Sunny went into the bathroom to take a shower.

Helen was in the living room playing Nintendo when she heard a knock at the door.

When she looked out the door, she saw a teenage guy, who she later found out was 16-year-old

Archie Bryant.

He had magazines in his hand. And by this point,

Helen was getting a little annoyed because a little while earlier Archie's friend, 15-year-old

John Sayerath, better known as Yoshi, had come by and tried to sell her some magazines. Helen

had told John she wasn't interested and she told Archie the same thing. She was getting

ready to shut the door when all of a sudden John popped up from behind Archie and the two guys

forced their way into the apartment. They put a gun to Helen's head. They pushed past her and

they forced their way inside and shut the door behind

them. Terrified, Helen backed up. Archie pushed her down on the floor. And then he tied her

hands behind her back and started duct taping her mouth. From where she was inside the shower,

Sunny could hear the commotion outside in the living room. According to court papers,

she heard Helen Kim say, please don't hurt me, take anything you want. And then she heard a man's

loud voice telling Helen to shut up. Sunny had her phone with her, so she locked the bathroom

door and very quickly dialed 911.

Fighting to stay calm, she was kind of whispering when she told the dispatcher that someone

had come into her house and that she thought her roommate may be being raped.
