Over the past decade, Shannon has transformed into one of our finest working American actors.

He's collaborated with auteurs like Jeff Nichols on Mud and Midnight Special.

Tom Ford for nocturnal animals. Giyomo del Toro for the shape of water.

Then of course you have this recurring run as

Super villain General Zad in films like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and most

recently The Flash. But regardless of the size or scope of the project, Shannon seems to alternate between

towering and taciturn, hulking and tender.

And that seems to be true in each of Shannon's performances, including his latest work as notorious country singer George Jones, playing opposite Jessica Chastain as Tammy Winnet.
