Summary

This episode is about my personal experience in recovering from processed food addiction and understanding that it was my physiology and not personal failings that caused me to be continuously preoccupied with food. This realization came from Dr. Ted Naiman's work in highlighting the work on the protein leverage hypothesis by Simpson et al - which describes how we will overeat energy in order to meet our essential protein needs.

Once I started prioritizing protein with a modified keto diet it really helped me finally feel satisfied as my essential protein needs were met, which meant the end of overeating but it also meant being able to let go of shame I had about my inability to stop thinking about food all of the time and I thought you might find it insightful or helpful too! Much love to you all and thank you so much for listening! Dr. Ted Naiman has a fantastic book called the PE Diet available, and has been on the podcast as well if you want more content with him! https://pedietbook.com/

Prior to beginning a new diet you should undergo a health screening with your physician to confirm that a ketogenic diet is suitable for you and to rule out any conditions and contraindications that may pose risks or are incompatible, including by way of example: conditions affecting the kidneys, liver or pancreas; muscular dystrophy; pregnancy; breast-feeding; being underweight; eating disorders; any health condition that requires a special diet [other conditions or contraindications]; hypoglycemia; or type 1 diabetes. A ketogenic diet may or may not be appropriate if you have type 2 diabetes, so you must consult with your physician if you have this condition. Anyone under the age of 18 should consult with their physician and their parents or legal guardian before beginning such a diet].
