Soon we're expecting Britain's new monarch will tour the front gates of Buckingham Palace

to view the flowers and the tributes that people have left for his late mother,

Queen Elizabeth II, since her death on Thursday afternoon.

Upon her passing, King Charles immediately became the new head of state

and set into motion a well-coordinated series of formalities and events to commemorate the end of the Elizabethan era and ushering the new king's reign.

This morning, the Assession Council, a group of British leaders that include former prime ministers and Scottish heads of state,

convened at St. James Palace in London
