| 0:12.4 | And I mentioned that there are fads in preaching, just as there are about almost everything |

| 0:18.3 | And if you live long enough, you begin to realize that's exactly what they are, fads. |
| 0:23.3 | Often, they're the result of cloning, someone does something different. |

| 0:32.5 | And there's out is that we lose sight of what is fundamental and ought to be unchangeable |

| 0:58.4 | But surely part of what Jonathan Edwards had in mind when he spoke in defense of what |
| 1:02.4 | he believed was the true preaching of the gospel during the first great awakening. |
| 1:07.4 | It was being criticised because of some of its effects on people. |
| 1:11.9 | And here's what Jonathan Edwards wrote. |
| 1:14.4 | I don't think ministers are to be blamed for raising the affections of their hearers |
| 1:19.4 | too high. |
| 1:21.2 | If that which they are affected with be only that which is worthy of affection. |
| 1:26.7 | And their affections are not raised beyond a proportion to their importance or worthiness |
| 1:31.7 | of affection. |
| 1:33.4 | And then he says this, I should think myself in the way of my duty to raise the affections |
