In 1959 a group of nine experienced Russian ski hiker checking through the Arau Mountains

were the victims of an unexplained disaster that left no survivors.

Eerily, the area of the ancient incident was called Kolacziaku, or in English, dead mountain.

To this day there's still no concrete explanation for what happened to the party.

Over theories range from an avalanche to secret military testing. to the theory

Though sensationalized over the years to bolster certain claims, the story at its core still remains a mystery.

Here we tell the story as it happened of what has become known as the Jiaht-of-pass incident.
