The majority's ruling maintains the president has absolute immunity for official actions but not for unofficial ones.

A stance critics argue dangerously elevates the president above the law.

The dissenters, including Justice Sotomayor, warned this could enable future presidents to evade accountability for crimes, even extreme acts like assassination or coup attempts.
