I covered it on my podcast but it's one of those cases that has always intrigued me, scared me, frustrated me, but also fascinated me.

Let's go ahead and get started. She was born on August 7th, 1955 in Phoenix, Arizona to her parents, Welsley and Willine Fredrickson.

She had three younger siblings and Diane grew up in a very conservative home, very strict home.

She also moved around a lot for Welsley's work. He ended up finally working in the post office so they ended up settling in Phoenix when she was about 11.

And eventually she attended Moon Valley High School. Up until high school, Diane was a pretty well behaved kid. She was okay.

But when she got into high school, she really started rebelling against her strict conservative parents.

This mainly seems to be driven by a need to feel accepted by the popular crowd.

She was feeling true acceptance and love out her house so she really was seeking it elsewhere.

At the age of 14, she started going by the name Diane. Also around this time she cut her hair really short, died at bleach blonde, and started dressing pretty edgy.

She's trying to be more in style for the time. And Diane was described by a lot of people as boy crazy and was always looking for the next person to date.

And this directly went against her parents rules. She was not allowed to date yet, but she did it anyway.

And eventually she started dating this 16 year old boy who lived pretty close to her and his name was Steve Downs.

And of course when her parents found out they didn't approve of it at all, but that did not stop Diane. She really liked this guy, Steve.
