For the next few moments, we look to God's Word to discover simple Bible principles that will help us to live the daily Christian life and to enjoy the journey.

When I say Proverbs 31, immediately people say, oh, you're going to talk to us about the virtuous woman.

But in fact, Proverbs 31 does not begin with a section on the virtuous woman.

It actually begins with a section on virtuous leaders.

It begins with a portion of scripture where a mother is speaking to her son.

In Proverbs 31, verse 4, we read,

It is not for kings, O Lemuel. It is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes, strong drink, lest they drink and forget the law and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

Give strong drink into him that's ready to perish and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

Let him drink and forget his poverty and remember his misery no more.

This is an interesting portion of scripture.

We've talked about the destruction of alcohol,

A mother who wants more for her son's life than he could ever want for himself

your mama says, alcohol is not for you. And not only is it not for you because of you, it's going to affect others if you drink wine.

Now some people are going to look at this same portion of scripture and they're going to say one of two things and both would be wrong.

Somebody's going to look at it and say, well, I'm sad or troubled and so I just need to drink.
