Summary

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 132 There are several differences between the Left and the Right on ideological, philosophical, and political grounds, but in plain practical terms, there's another obvious difference. The Left has radicalized in a way conservatives have not, and in proportions that conservatives have not. Why is that? The answer is that the Left has succumbed to the blinding temptation for power far more than the rest of us have, and it has driven them mad. The thing is, while radicalism and political violence are not (at present) "both sides" problems, temptation is a both-sides problem. The friend-enemy distinction as a criterion of politics tempts us too, and we must continue to choose to reject it, or we will lose this most important distinction between Left and Right. 0:47.7	but I want to boil it down to one particular distinction between the two, and that is that I want to address this issue of whether or not,
0:56.9	you know, we're looking at a both sides problem or what the both sides problem is all about.
1:00.9	You've probably heard this before, right? That, oh, there's extremism on the left and there's
1:05.0	extremism on the right. There's a woke left and there's a woke right. It's a both sides problem.
1:10.4	And it's not, actually,
1:13.4	it is true that there is extremism on the left and on the right. It is true that there is a
1:19.1	woke problem on the left and a woke problem on the right. But it is not true that this is a both
1:24.4	sides problem. I don't want to get too nitty-gritty about it,
1:27.9	but the fact of the matter is that if we look at overall proportions and degrees of adherence,
1:33.4	what you have is a large body, relatively speaking on the left, who are at least fairly to
1:40.0	moderately committed to an extreme view of politics, and a relatively small body on the right who are committed to an extreme view of politics and a relatively small body on the right
1:46.8	who are committed to an extreme view of politics. You have a basis of sympathy for that
1:54.2	extreme view of politics on the left that is also larger than the range of sympathy for the
2:00.1	extremist politics on the right.
