All right, before I get started today, I need to talk to my wife real quick.

So years ago, probably decades ago, I was in my boss's office and we were just talking,

shooting the breeze. And I don't remember what the overall topic was, but he said something along the lines of,

you know, Dave, people do the things that they want to do,

and they don't do the things that they don't want to do.

And for whatever reason, that resonated with me.

That stuck.

And I couldn't let it go and kept thinking about that and realized just what a great filter that is, understanding that. And it really became

somewhat life-changing for me as a filter. And because I saw

the truth in it and just how impactful it was, I started telling that to other people,

hey, you know, you do the things you want to do and you don't do the things you don't want to do. And I said it so often that my wife, Ava, said, I'm really tired of you saying that.

And I kept at it. I said it a few more times and I could tell she was getting frustrated. And I tried

explaining, we had these conversations about what I thought it meant and how she interpreted it and why I saw it was a valuable thing.

And finally I said to her, you know what, I know you don't like hearing this, so I promise you that I will never say it to you again.

And that was years ago and quite frankly, I never have.

But it's still a great filter.
