0:23.3	Thanksgiving's over. I hope you didn't shame spiral into an entire pumpkin pie while watching football. But if you did, fuck it. You know what?
0:29.1	The lights are going up. The air is starting to smell faintly of cinnamon and seasonal treats.
0:33.8	And it's that magical time of year when we can curl up in front of the fireplace and try to scare the shit out of ourselves with ghost stories.
0:40.8	So let's get right into it with the creepiest thing I heard this week.
0:46.1	This is the allegedly true story of a series of encounters with what's known as the Phantom Skier of Donner Pass.
0:54.1	So there are ghost stories that feel manufactured,
0:56.6	that feel stitched together by camp counselors
0:58.7	or over-served uncles at holiday dinners.
1:02.4	And then there are legends that linger in places
1:05.4	where tragedy has already been soaked into the soil.
1:10.0	This story comes straight out of the Sierra Nevada,
1:13.0	about a six-hour drive from where I'm sitting right now,
1:16.1	a place where the wind doesn't just whistle, it seems to remember.
1:19.9	And if you've ever driven Interstate 80 in a whiteout,
1:23.3	you already know there's something about Donner Pass
1:26.5	that feels older, heavier, and far more
1:30.6	aware of you than you are of it. The history up there is tragic enough on its own, but the locals
1:37.5	will tell you the mountains kept a few ghosts just for themselves. And one of them is the phantom skier of Donner Pass. Now that name alone, Donner Pass,
1:48.0	carries enough historical weight to make even a hardened skeptic keep their head on a swivel.
