Summary

The Devil is a Narcissist: Church Hurt, Spiritual Abuse, and Narcissism in the Church Hardly a week goes by without news of another Mega-Church pastor falling into moral failure. Why? And why does it seem like they all are working from the same playbook? Because they are. I believe narcissism is a spirit, and the enemy has been using it to attack the church for a long time. Join me as we take a look at how we can deal with narcissism, church hurt, and spiritual abuse. Is this a hard topic? Absolutely. But I also believe that God wants to reveal so He can heal. The thing is....f we don’t talk about it? It won’t ever get better.    Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.   Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God’s voice or if it’s really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life?   Hey, I’m your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I too was doubting God’s voice in my own life. I too felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn’t quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn’t qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do.   The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God’s word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life.   Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His.   The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open.   Join me for your weekly dose of faith, honesty, and prayer.   Learn -> https://shehears.org Connect -> rachael@shehears.org Community->Christian Women's Daily Bible Study Group Instagram-> https://www.instagram.com/she_hears/     Want to go a little deeper?   Purchase the She Hears: Learning to Listen to Jesus Bible Study : https://shehears.org/resources   In this six-week study from the Book of John, Rachael Groll takes you on an in-depth exploration into the lives of six women Jesus knew. Women often deal with feelings of insecurity and unworthiness, yet the lives of these women show that Jesus values us, wants a relationship with us, and can use us to further His kingdom. In her warm, conversational style, Rachael ties together her life experience, knowledge of the Scriptures, and her compassion for women to encourage us and enable us to become the women God has called us to be.   Need to chat one on one? Today's episode is quite honestly different than what I had planned to put out today.

0:05.6

And I think sometimes that happens where we have a plan and then God interrupts the plan.

0:10.0

And I'm okay with that.

0:11.4

It's a little bit more work, but I'm going to be faithful and obedient to what he's called me to do in everything, including podcasting.

0:17.5

I want to be fully transparent.

The Hearing Jesus podcast is a rebrand of a previous

0:24.1

podcast I had done called She Hears. And I needed to fix some things and change some things and

0:32.4

really kind of follow after the direction God was calling me too. So that's why it's now called hearing Jesus.

0:38.0

Regardless, last year, the most popular by far series that I did was on church hurt and narcissism

0:45.6

within the church. And I did it in response to another podcast. You probably are familiar with it.

0:50.4

Christianity Today did it. And it was called the rise and fall of Mars Hill.

0:58.2

And it was in this season of a lot of fallen church leadership.

1:05.0

And I did it as a response both to what was going on in our culture and also what I had kind of walked through on my own in the previous couple years.

1:07.6

And in a lot of ways, it was a healing opportunity for me. And I debated whether or not

1:14.1

I was even going to publish it on the Hearing Jesus podcast. But as I sat down this weekend to watch

1:23.0

the Hill song documentary, if you've not watched that or kept up with that in the news, it's some other

1:28.7

really disappointing things that have come out of the church world. A lot of the patterns, a lot of the

1:33.8

things I was seeing was very, very familiar, very similar to what we saw in the Martes Hill case.

1:38.6

And what we're seeing all over, probably like once a month, we hear another story. So I'm going to go ahead and

1:45.0

release it. And I do want to just kind of warn you. This is just a little bit of a warning that

1:52.1

there might be some things that you could be sensitive to if you've walked through similar things.

1:56.9

That being said, I think it's really important to talk about things. The Lord wants to reveal them so that he can heal them.
