Summary

Humans are meant to live in a large, rooted, multigenerational family.

The modern world has destroyed that.

Here are the 3 things I think have most led to the destruction, and 3 solutions I think can help you escape from the trap of the nuclear family. Thank God, we've been able to build a strong, multigenerational family over the past 30 years, and these are not just hypotheses, but things that actually work for us and the families we mentor.

On this episode, we talk about:

0:00 Intro

0:16 Why is Family So Broken?

1:43 The Largest Variable That Destroyed The Multigenerational Family?

5:32 The Second Big Factor (Revolution)

6:38 The Third Variable

Hey guys, today we're going to talk about the destruction of the multi-generational family.

0:05.0

So one of the things we try to do here at family teams is try to understand what happened to the family and how to get back.

0:09.9

And this is a very difficult and dark period in history that we really need to study and understand.

0:16.0

Because part of what we're trying to dive into is why is the family so broken?

0:19.9

I know for so many people,

0:21.1

when they think about the family, they're like, this is crazy. Why would I start a family? It's got a

0:25.7

more than 50% in some cases failure rate. Even when there's not divorce, there are so many

0:32.3

families that have experienced real failure. And so would you get on a plane if the failure rate was around 50%?

0:40.8

Would you put your children on a plane with a failure rate like that? Of course not. And the family is

0:46.5

far more important than a plane. It is the structure that really shapes us in every single way,

0:52.2

spiritually, emotionally, physically, and

0:55.1

relationally. So we really need to be careful what's going on here and understand what happened.

0:59.5

And we believe, you guys, that the family is an incredible design. It is not designed to fail,

1:05.9

but we have adopted a new idea, a new design that is creating all of this brokenness. And all of this

1:13.7

happened long before any of us listening to this right now, we're born. And so we're not even aware

1:18.4

that we have created or adopted a novel family paradigm or blueprint that is obviously not

1:26.4

working. And instead of actually going back and studying

1:29.1

the different blueprints in history and trying to figure out how to rescue the family,

1:33.0

we just keep double and tripling down on this broken idea. So what happened to the

1:39.0

multigenerational family? What really broke it down? So it starts in a kind of an interesting

1:43.3

place. First of all, the Catholic Church.

1:45.2

I was not at all expecting to learn this.
