Summary

Ed Zitron is joined by Jason Kint, CEO of DCN and Arielle Garcia, Director of Intelligence at CheckMyAds, for the third episode of Better Offline's coverage of the Department of Justice's second antitrust case against Google, one that alleges that "through Serial Acquisitions and Anticompetitive Auction Manipulation, Google Subverted Competition in Internet Advertising Technologies."

This is the third episode of our ongoing coverage of the trial, which Jason and Arielle have been attending in-person in Washington DC. Here's a great explainer about how this all works from the Better Offline Reddit.

0:44.6

Likewise. So, Ariel, why don't you tell me a little bit about the end of the Department of

0:51.3

Justice's case? Anything fun, interesting, or scandalous happened in the last week?

0:55.5

Yeah, I will say it was definitely a markedly slower week than it was last week. A lot of

1:01.8

the testimony that we heard was simply for the purpose of getting exhibits into evidence.

1:08.1

But there were a couple of things that stood out. We started the week with

1:11.6

Neil Mohan and the big revelation there. And who is Neil Mohan just to be clear? He is now CEO of

1:19.0

YouTube, but he came over with the double-click acquisition. And so one of the big focus areas

1:27.4

of his testimony was about the ad meld yield manager acquisition.

1:31.8

And we saw internal decks where they were discussing whether or not to purchase a yield manager.

1:40.0

What does that mean as well?

1:41.6

So it basically helped publishers optimize yield.

1:45.2

Jason, you can probably add more color to this than I can.
