In Romans chapter 5, Paul sets forth this concept of the delivering power of the cross.

In verses 6 and 8, he makes a staggering statement.

While we were helpless, Christ died for the ungodly.

He says in verse, A, God demonstrated his love toward us that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.

Christ's death, the cross, was necessary in order for us to be forgiven for our sins.

Christ died while we were ungodly, he demonstrated his love while we were still sinners.

In other words, when there was nothing lovely about us, God loved us enough to die for us. That's how much God loves you,

verse 8. God didn't just talk about it, he demonstrated it. The proof that God loves you is really resident in the

cross of Christ because he loved you and me enough to die. But then he says in verse nine, much more. He repeats it

again in verse 10.

Much more.

Much more means on top of all that.
