technical difficulties, we are back in action, folks in this wonderful holiday season. And

what better time than now to talk about

everyone's favorite subject folks we're talking Freudian death drive this is one of my

favorite topics in all of the topics it's one of my favorite drives uh I like death drive I like the

one made by Nicholas winding refin I'm a big fan of drives in general.

I find they help clear the mind, especially when you're driving along the highway and you have that

intrusive thought that says something like, what if I were to just swerve into oncoming traffic

and get rid of all of this right now and cause a scene.

I don't have those very often, but every now and then they creep up.

And, you know, I appreciate, too, Pete, thanks for asking what James Hillman says, of course, in revisioning psychology, you'll recall on page 19, Freud's concepts such as libido and especially as eros, thanatos,

and Oedipus are indeed ancient images explicitly drawn from a long history of mythological personification.

Others of his terms, projection, sublimation, condensation, once belonged to the poetics of alchemy.

Freud himself wrote, the theory of instincts,

as it were, is our mythology. The instincts are mythical beings, superb in their indefiniteness.

And Freud's id, quote, under the domination of the mute but powerful death instincts may be compared

as I have done elsewhere in some detail with the underworld of invisible Hades.

The death drive, that which drags you into the pits of hell is our topic as we usher in

everyone's jolliest time of year. Pete, how are you doing today? I'm doing good. All the better
