Hello and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Thursday. It's Eve here. I hope you're

having a good week. Have you ever had a thought about someone or something that has perhaps

made you go, whoa, where did that come from? Maybe it even shocked you a little bit? To

help illustrate this, I'll begin with a story. I was over at a friend's house the other day.

They'd just moved in and we're having some big issues with their new neighbour. So my

friend has young children and the neighbour was complaining that they were making too much

noise. Not a great start to living in their new home. Neighbor issues are not fun.

Anyway, she was telling me that things had gotten so heated and that the neighbour was being

so unreasonable and mean that she woke up in the middle of the night with the thought

to go and slash the neighbour's tyres. Now she obviously didn't do it but she lay in

bed going over and over in her head about how she could and then hopefully get away with

it. And when she was telling me this, I could see the turmoil in her face. I mean she

would never even hurt a fly. Let alone slash someone's tyres. But this had really consumed

her. Now we might think that we shouldn't be experiencing them or that there is something

wrong with us if we do. But it's like this is a perfectly natural. It's part of being

human and it's what in the classical teachings are referred to as clashes or poisons. Things
