Tonight on STS, we mark a somber and powerful moment in the long and painful saga of the Dan Markell murder case.

You guys have been with us for a lot of it.

Today is what is known in the Jewish tradition as Dan Markel's Yart site, which is the Jewish

day of remembrance on the anniversary of a death.

And of course, we're going to honor the memory of Florida State University law professor

Dan Markell.

For those who do not know, he was gunned down in cold blood back on July 18, 2014.

And remarkably, somehow, after being shot in the head twice, he still hung on for about eight or nine hours, I believe, passing away the following day.

So today on the Jewish calendar is the anniversary of July 19th.

And that is why, according to the Jewish tradition, which is what the Markell's follow, is the anniversary of Dan's death.

So it has been 11 years of absolute hell for them.
